For long roads, golden fields, and remembering that sometimes you have to look backward to see how far you've come.

An abandoned prairie town.

Late-summer fields stretching toward the horizon.

An enormous Saskatchewan sky rolling overhead.

And a photograph taken by someone who had no idea where the road ahead would eventually lead.

Clouds Over Robsart was featured in August's Coven Mail Club—a ritual centred around Lughnasadh, the first harvest, and recognizing the things we've quietly nurtured into being.

I captured this photograph in the late summer of 2010, during one of my earliest chapters as a photographer.

Not long afterward, I entered it into one of the first photography competitions I'd ever submitted my work to.

It won First Place in the Landscape category.

At the time, that was the accomplishment I could see.

Looking at it sixteen years later, I see something else.

This photograph was made at the beginning of a chapter that would eventually carry me through some of the hardest years of my life.

I couldn't have known then where I was going.

I couldn't have seen the life, art, business, or community waiting somewhere beyond that horizon.

But the seeds were already there.

Pulled from over fifteen years of my photography archives and signed before it reaches you, this print is a reminder that growth is often easiest to recognize from a distance.

Sometimes you have to turn around to see the harvest.
