in August's Coven Mail Club—a ritual centred around Lughnasadh, the first harvest, and recognizing the things we've quietly nurtured into being.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI captured this photograph in the late summer of 2010, during one of my earliest chapters as a photographer.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eNot long afterward, I entered it into one of the first photography competitions I'd ever submitted my work to.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt won \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFirst Place in the Landscape category.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAt the time, that was the accomplishment I could see.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLooking at it sixteen years later, I see something else.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis photograph was made at the beginning of a chapter that would eventually carry me through some of the hardest years of my life.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI couldn't have known then where I was going.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp
